The XM177E2 is the variant of the Xm177E1 Commando assault rifle, from which it differs for the introduction of the forward assist knob (which unjammed the model if necessary) and for the extended barrel use full to reduce the noise of the shot, improve accuracy and facilitate the dissipation of heat from the cartridge. The increased length of a few CM allowed the assembly of the grenade launchers, XM148 & M203.
The M203 grenade launcher uses a front sliding system of the barrel forward to expose the grenade loading window.
